Elements of Competency Performance Criteria              
Element: Prepare for work.
  • Create a materials list and collect materials.
  • Select appropriate tools and equipment including personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Check roof structure for possible obstructions.
  • Identify any battens to be relocated, if required.
  • Identify any structural supports to be relocated and report to relevant persons for assessment, if required.
       
Element: Identify installation requirements.
  • Access, read and determine roof component installation requirements from job specifications, relevant Australian Standards, codes, manufacturers’ instructions and jurisdictional requirements.
       
Element: Identify and apply workplace, work health and safety (WHS) and environmental requirements.
  • Create a materials list and collect materials.
       
Element: Select appropriate tools and equipment including personal protective equipment (PPE).
       
Element: Check roof structure for possible obstructions.
       
Element: Identify any battens to be relocated, if required.
       
Element: Identify any structural supports to be relocated and report to relevant persons for assessment, if required.

  • Locate and set out opening for installation of components.
       
Element: Relocate battens where required in accordance with jurisdictional legislation.
       
Element: Perform installation, fixing and sealing of roofing components.
  • Clear the work area and dispose of, reuse or recycle materials in accordance with state or territory legislation and workplace requirements.
       
Element: Clean tools and equipment, check for serviceability and report any damage, and store and secure.

Assessment Tasks

Write these in plain English and spell out how, when and where the task is to be carried out, under what conditions, and what resources are needed. Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.

When you have finished writing your assessment tool every one of these must have been addressed, preferably several times in a variety of contexts.
